Poker Tips and Advice

Most poker guides and books will recommend that it is better not to play or at least join a poker game with players that are perceived to be not really good in this card game when you are distracted or tired and you feel that you are not at the top of your game. However, we have to acknowledge the fact that most poker players seldom get into a poker game at their best form. Some players join poker games after a tiring day at the office and get into a poker game with a lot of distractions. This means that we may not be at our best form when playing a game of poker, and we continue to play the card game under this kind of situation.

While we are not advocating this kind of mindset when playing a poker game, we have to recognize the fact that we may have to manage the situation if we want to play the card game on a regular basis. Thus, if you don’t have any other choice but play the game under these circumstances, which is usually the case for about 90 percent of poker players, then it is imperative that you learn important tips and strategies that would minimize miscues and errors in judgment while playing poker.

For instance, it is best that you avoid shorthand, especially when you have had a drink too many with friends or feeling a bit too tired after a hectic day at the workplace. You have lesser time to think and consider your decision when playing shorthand. In this kind of poker game, you will be subjected to a lot of pressure, and you would definitely have to be more focused when playing this type of poker game. If you feel that you are not at your best form, then it may be wise to play the card game with relatively weak opponents. Under these circumstances, you also have to avoid playing no-limit poker tournaments, where you can lose everything after making a single erroneous move or decision.

If you don’t look sharp and you are not really ready for a serious bout on the felt table, then you can join a poker game with at least 7 other poker players or even the full nine opponents so that you will have more time to consider your options before making your final decision on the poker table. This is definitely better than having to cope up with the dizzying pace of a shorthand poker game.

In addition to this, it is also wise to pick a poker table with about 2 to 3 weak players. You must also maintain a play where majority of the stakes are on the low end of what you would normally wager on under normal circumstances. Of course, if you have had a drink or two, then it is best that you don’t make rash decisions. If you find yourself under such circumstances, then it is best that you tone down on your bluffing option and maintain a play within the conservative side.
